The ship's unique `Fast Mono hull' design and the resulting 27-knot average cruising speed, allows her to sail weekly cruises of three continents (Europe, Africa and Asia) - a cruise industry first.

Royal Clipper is the first fully-rigged square-rigger with five masts since her inspiration, Preussen, in l902. Fully rigged means squaresails on each of the masts.

Royal Clipper is by far the largest true sail ship afloat in the world today.

Royal Clipper was built at Merwede Shipyard, The Netherlands.
Dimensions: Length is 439 feet. Beam is 54 feet, Draft is 18.5 feet, Gross Tons: 5,000 (compares with 2,298 gross tons for sister ships, Star Flyer and Star Clipper).

Royal Clipper always will be under sail at sea except when weather requires she be powered by her twin 2,500 horsepower diesel engines. She does not use computers for sail handling.. All sails are raised, lowered and positioned from the security of the deck by skilled sailors who use power winches and hand controlled horizontal and vertical power furling.

Sailing speed varies between 8 knots and 20 knots, depending on weather conditions. When the winds fail, Royal Clipper sustains 13.5 knots or higher with her twin Caterpiller 2,500 horsepower Diesel engines.

Size of crew: 105, of whom only 20 are needed to handle all sails. The remaining 85 crew serve passenger needs or are on support duty, such as in engine room. Number of Passengers: A total of 227 in double occupancy. Mast Height above the waterline: l97 feet.

Freedom of the Seas is the largest luxury cruise ship in the world, owned by Royal Caribbean.

This cruise ship weighs 160,000 tons, it is 1,112 feet long, 184 feet wide and it has 15 passenger decks holding 3,634 guests double-occupancy. Freedom of the Seas towers 208 feet tall, approximately the same height as two of the Statue of Liberty, placed head to toe.

A brand new featureis the H2O Zone, or the “spray-ground” which has colorful fiberglass sculptures shooting jets of water, geysers shooting from the ground and water cannons. There’s even a lazy river and waterfall inside! At night, this area, with the integration of an incredible lighting system, will be transformed into a sculpture garden. Royal Caribbean says, “there’s nothing like the H2O Zone on any other cruise ship today.”

Another first-ever feature is a dedicated sports pool located in the main pool area. One of the two pools of the Freedom of the Seas is used almost exclusively for athletic pool games, ranging from basketball and volleyball to synchronized swimming. Other times, it will have designated lanes for lap swimming. The second pool is just for relaxing. At night, passengers can see this area transformed into an open-air nightclub with a large dance floor between the two pools.

Located at the heart of this largest cruise ship, the Royal Promenade is a 445-foot-long shopping, dining and entertainment boulevard that spans the length of an entire football field. At night, the Promenade hosts street parades, put on by select staff, commencing from a revolutionary new descending bridge amidst a fanfare of music, lasers and lights. Guests can also enjoy relaxed reading at the 3,600-volume Book Nook.

The Norwegian Dawn is a totally unique ship featuring hull artwork that is absolutely stunning. Purpose-built for the company's "Freestyle Cruising" concept, Norwegian Dawn will be cruising the Eastern/Western Caribbean and also Florida and Bahamas from New York year-round.

The Carnival Ecstasy is the second ship in Carnival's highly successful Fantasy Class. The theme for this ship is City at Sea. The City Lights Boulevard on the promenade deck is the happening place to be when the sun goes down. Check out The Rolls Royce Cafe for a specialty coffee.
